As my next project in the CAD world I decided to create a bracket for connecting a Raspberry Pi 3B+ to the 3D printer. Octoprint is a popular remote access tool for 3D printers that can run on a Raspberry Pi. I made the pocket the same size as the width as that wrench so there isn’t enough clearance. The datum plane (yellow plane) is used to create pockets for all the tools. From the bottom up: Wrenches, hex keys and screw driver, angle cutters, spatula. One main sketch of the base and a sketch for each individual tool holder. The idea is the holder nests just under the right most side of the control panel. I figured I’d start small and work my way up in design complexity, so the first project I worked on was something simple and also practical: A tool holder for my Ender 3 (designed in FreeCAD). And I found OpenSCAD interesting because it takes a coding approach with defining the geometry. FreeCAD would be the more traditional CAD software where the user starts drawing and constraining sketches. The programs FreeCAD and OpenSCAD, were the first tool to catch my eye. This obviously means I need to learn some CAD software to creating crafting my own 3D models. There are all sorts of cool projects on to print, but I’m personally more interested in what I can make myself.

In my quest to make cool stuff, I decided to buy myself an Ender 3 Pro 3D printer.
